Pochoir is a graphic art form mainly used in Paris from 1900 to 1960, but peaking around 1930.

Stencils are made and then colourists layer paint to build up the artwork.

It was expensive and labour intensive.

A book of Pochoir designs called Formes et Couleurs by Auguste H Thomas is well know, of which the above image is taken from.
